Download Mozilla firefox. ( http://www.getfirefox.com ) it pacxks the punch with a easier to use and faster Download Manager. That should work for you. Just use Firefox instead of IE. :)

IE 7.0 was installed on mynotebook, now firefox doesn't work. What gives?

Ie 7.0 automaticaly updated and now firefox doesn't work. Is this happening to anyone else.

IE 7.0 was installed on mynotebook, now firefox doesn't work. What gives?windows media player

I personally recommend not installing IE7 as of yet. Release candidates can always do harm to your computer.

Firefox uses a Windows process inside what we call a "library". That DLL file, which can be needed by Firefox, may have been altered and made unreadable by your installation of IE7.

I would recommend uninstalling IE7 and re-installing Firefox.

You may need to set program access and defaults.
that shouldnt happen, check for any viruses or call a representative

Ie defendrer?

I downloaded "ie defender" and cannot remove it. i have vista; dell inspiron 1721.

I tried "control panel: uninstall" but i get a mcafee popup that says this action is denied.

i just got this virus a couple days ago! i had a heck of time trying to find something to remove it. try SUPERAntiSpyware, it caught IE defender on my system and removed it for me and its free. i also tried the removal instructions from one of those forum websites but they were complicated and i didn't get the virus out. try superantispyware, it works and its really easy, you just wait for it to scan your system.

ad-ware works fine too. i used that too. ad-ware finds a lot of tracking cookies also that supersntispyware sometimes misses, but if IE defender is the only bothering you, superantispyware works really well.

Removing IEDefender, or IE Defender is a difficult process, but it can be done. IEDefender made its way into your computer without your permission and now it's damaging your machine. This rogue anti-spyware program will launch on every Windows startup and download more malware into your computer. IEDefender displays constant pop-ups and system alerts that mislead you into purcahsing the full version of the program. Do NOT trust IEDefender. I suggest you remove IEDefender immediately. Here are the instructions to get rid of IEDefender.

If i download IE 7 does it automatically become the default browser?....see details?microsoft.com internet explorer

IE 7 will replace IE 6. Just like any other software. the old one will be replaced by newer version.
Why upgrade to IE7 if your not going to use it?
Yeah, once you install IE7 it overwrites IE6. You can try FireFox and change the settings to keep IE6 the default browser.
IE6 will be replaced with IE7... I personally like IE7 better...
YES, IE7 does take over the IE6 and NO you cannot have both browsers on the same computer at the same time. However, The IE7 is an update of the EI6 and if you don't like IE7 you can always go back to the IE6 by removing the IE7. You can do that by going to add/remove programs on your control panel.

Hope this helps.
Please, please upgrade your browser to one that renders code correctly. Us website designers are sick of having to break our sites' code just so that people sitll using IE6 can get away without upgrading.

I'd recommend FireFox over IE7, but either way, please, please don't stay on IE6. The longer you use it, the longer it'll take before we're able to use the cool stuff like 24-bit PNG transparency that all the other browsers support.
No, when you install IE7, it basically upgrades 6 to 7, and you will no longer have access to v.6.x unless you uninstall v.7.x. If you require further assistance, please contact us through our website at www.whitewaterit.com

IE/ Firefox Browser closes randomly, computer shuts down randomly?

There are several problems that I'll address here:

1. My internet browsers close randomly/unexpectedly. I thought it might be a problem with IE so I switched to Firefox, but it stills happens. It happens more frequently when the computer first starts up, but every 3 minutes or so the browser closes.

2. The computer itself restarts randomly. I've changed my power settings but it still does it. Is there any fix or any suggested power settings? Whenever the computer comes back on I get a message "Windows has recovered from a serious error."

3. I can't change font sizes in Microsoft Works Word Processor or the program will freeze.

I've googled all of the problems and I've found people asking for help but no one knows a solution. I really hope you guys can help!

I've also ran Avast! virus scan, Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, Ace Utilities, etc, and nothing comes up, so I doubt it's any form of spyware and if it is a virus it's a very elusive one.

Hey guys i was wondering if you anyone knew a solution to my problem at the moment...

Yes, I believe so. Check this at Microsoft.com,(put Internet Explorer 6 in their search box)
%26gt;Yes...if you (wisely) uninstall IE7, the system will automatically revert to IE6.%26lt;
yes..
Yes, if you go to your Control Panel, and choose Add/Remove Programs, scroll down in the list to Windows Internet Explorer, click it once and choose Uninstall. It will do it's thing and return you to IE6. You may have to reboot your computer for the change to take effect.
yeah, but you constantly get these popups from windows automatic updates to update your computer, just be sure to turn that off.
Of course! just uninstall Internet ex 7. it sucks anyways. Microsoft even said that they have had many problems with Internet ex 7. so its useless.
Yes, go to add remove UN install it you will get IE6 automatically.
Here is the official site that will answer your question.

I am helping my cousin troubleshooting with his home computer. He has a Windows XP machine with IE 6.0 installed. Whenever he tries to view or access an .mpg file using IE the browser does not display anything.

This is also true when we downloaded the .mpg file onto his workstation, and tried to play it using Windows Media player; video plays but no video image. I know he also has some type of codec installed, but not sure what. Can any ones suggest a solution to this?

Uninstall IE7 by going into add remove programs and see if it is there if not then check add remove windows components and uncheck explorer. Reboot your computer the go back to add remove programs and click add winodws components and check explorer and that will install explorer 6
Go to tools, the tool icon that is on the toolbar, (with the gear next to it), then click phising Filter-Turn off Automatic Website checking. This is part of the reason that IE-7 goes so slow. I have cable, and it slowed my down, so I turned it off. I never had it before, so I figured I don't need it now.. I never did have any problems with IE-6 without a phising filter. Give it a try, and see if it makes a difference. You can always turn it back on..Good Luck..
Have you cleaned out your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies?

The IE or Mozilla Ff speed may may be bogged down because of your temporary Internet file is stuffed and cookie folder too.

If you are using IE 7 click on Tools, click on Internet Options. If the General tab is in display mode, under Browsing history you will see Delete and Settings.

Click Settings first; and IE 7 will give you the best settings for your computer. If you have used your computer a good deal this week or longer, click Delete and the browsers temporary stuff it stored will be deleted.

You should get better performance.

Try to live with IE7. It works well in almost all cases. It is safer and better. Plus you need certain parts of IE to do other things.

If you must, you can download from microsoft's IE site a tool that temporarily fools the web server into thinking that you have IE6.
there problem is not a viruse or anything else, try to open explorer and disable all add ons

check this website it will help u

by the way, try to clean your registery using registery cleaner it's very commun windows applications crash cuz of that, u can check pctools.com or download.com to get one
IE-7 is a superior version than IE-6. The, why you are trying to retain IE-6. If automatic update is kept 'ON' in Security centre, it will update everything.

Put 'automatic update, in manual setting so that you can choose whether to update or not.

It should work.
i know what ur going through, IE-7 is too fancy and newfangled, i'd stick with IE-6, maybe theres a problem with the add/remove program dll, use a registry cleaner or perform a chkdsk to correct errors

I don't know what errors you're getting but any error isn't a good one. I would uninstall IE 7.0 and try to reinstall it from scratch. Go to Start | Control Panel | Add and Remove Programs. Make sure the "Show Updates" box is checked at the top of the Add/Remove screen. Scroll down under Windows XP updates and select to remove IE 7.0. Your system will revert back to IE 6.0. I have had to do this once or twice for some reason, to get IE 7.0 to function properly.

Popups from IE while using firefox. Need help?

Sometimes I get these ebay popups that I can't tell whether it's IE or firefox. I have SB S%26amp;D, ad-aware SE personal, and SUPER antispyware, but nothing's working. I do the scans and remove them but still keep getting popups. I uninstalled IE from add and remove programs%26gt;add/remove windows components. I tried to delete IE from C: program files but it says that a program or file is using it, and I can't find out which one. I thought I could find out by going to task manager but when I ctrl, alt, delete it just shows up a window listing the users and asking me if i want to log off/disconnect. And theres no tab up top with the quit and minimize signs, etc. And I don't know how to fix that.

Try scanning in safe mode

Download the following (if you don’t have them already) and then UPDATE all your spyware scanners. After they are updated, restart your PC while tapping the “F8” key – this will start your PC in “safe mode”. When your computer is in safe mode scan with all these programs and then trash what ever they find.

you have to get a seperate uninstalling software for getting IE or Messenger off the PC. it is available , but not for free.

reinstall it with IE 6
from what i know about i7 is much better than i6, maybe it is not compatible with your systems, what you should do is back up your files first and try to reformat your hard disk maybe that what i will suggest to you as of the moment.
Start %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; Add/Remove Programs.

Uninstall IE 7 from the list. If it does not show up there, then click 'Show Updates' and then uninstall it. IE will be automatically be downgraded to version 6.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and restore Internet Explorer 6 when using Windows XP or Windows Server 2003

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

Click Add or Remove Programs.

Scroll down to Windows Internet Explorer 7, click it, and then click Change/Remove.

If you cannot find Internet Explorer 7 in Add or Remove Programs, click Start, click Run, type %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note: %windir% is the location of your Windows directory, which can usually be found at C:\Windows. To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3, Beta 2, Beta 2 Preview, or Beta 1 and restore Internet Explorer 6 when using Windows XP or Windows Server 2003:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

Click Add or Remove Programs.

Scroll down to "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3", "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2", or "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview", click it, and then click Change/Remove.

If you cannot find any version of Internet Explorer 7 in the previous step, select the Show Updates check box at the top of the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, scroll down to Windows XP - Software Updates, select "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview" or "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1", and then click Change/Remove.

If you cannot find an Internet Explorer 7 entry using Add or Remove Programs, try running these commands. Each is for a different release of Internet Explorer 7, so only one will succeed. To run any of these commands, you need to have the View hidden folders option enabled. In the commands below, %windir% is the location of your Windows directory, which can usually be found at C:\Windows. To run these commands, click Start, click Run, and then type one of the following:

%windir%\ ie7beta3\ spuninst\ spuninst.exe.

%windir%\ $NtUninstallie7beta1$\ spuninst\ spuninst.exe.

%windir%\ $NtUninstallie7bet2p$ \spuninst\ spuninst.exe.

%windir%\ $NtUninstallie7b2pmx$ \spuninst \spuninst.exe.

%windir%\ $NtUninstallie7beta2$ \spuninst\spuninst.exe.
If you still can't get rid of the problem what I would do is if you have Windows XP press F10 when you restart your computer and keep pressing it untill you get a screen and somewhere on there, there should be an option that says Restore your computer to an earlier date. Now this works. The computer will choose dates it thinks are important or you can set your own but once you set the date there is no turning back.
I had a similar issue with the "..has encountered a problem and needs to close" pop up. This doesn't totally uninstall IE, more of a disable but what I did was:

Start - control panel - add remove programs

On the left hand side of the program list you will see add/remove windows components. Un-check Internet Explorer and click on next. I then installed Firefox.

IE hasn't bothered me since :P
Hi,

From the control panel I was able to uninstall it. Select to show updates. Find and uninstall IE7.

The folder on your hardrive usually drive C will still show the folder on IE though.

IE Defender on my computer, how to remove?windows vista home premium internet explorer

Have you tried the manual removal from this site:

http://www.precisesecurity.com/blogs/200...

It just requires you to delete some related files.
The smitfraudfix is being advised by most forums now to remove IEDefender. Follow that up with Superantispyware to remove any infections that the smitfraudfix doesn't get and you'll be in good shape..

Smitfraudfix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p...

Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
IEDefender is an extremely dangerous rogue software created by programmers from Russia. It may be installed manually (from www.iedefender.com) or using security holes. Once the IEDefender is installed, it will start showing fake security messages that your system is in danger and will trick you into buying its full version. IEDefender may steal your secret information (passwords, credit card numbers, PayPal accounts). IEDefenders work may damage Windows registry and cause system slowdowns and crashes. It may be difficult to remove IEDefender manually because it loads on every Windows startup and has an ability to renew itself if you try to remove it.

here are manual removal instructions:
How to remove IE Defender (Removal Instructions)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t...
IEDefender is a rogue anti-spyware application. IEDefender hijacks your web browser and redirects you to IE Defender鈥檚 homepage. IEDefender also pop-ups fake security alerts to deceive you! IEDefender uses all means necessary to mislead you and trick you into downloading the full version of the program to "solve" your spyware problems. You have to be careful and NOT trust IEDefender, even though it seems legitimate. My recommendations is that you remove IEDefender immediately before you become its next victim.
i just got this virus a couple days ago! i had a heck of time trying to find something to remove it. try SUPERAntiSpyware, it caught IE defender on my system and removed it for me and its free. i also tried the removal instructions from one of those forum websites but they were complicated and i didn't get the virus out. try superantispyware, it works and its really easy, you just wait for it to scan your system.

ad-ware works fine too. i used that too. ad-ware finds a lot of tracking cookies also that supersntispyware sometimes misses, but if IE defender is the only bothering you, superantispyware works really well.
You can try this free removal process: http://www.pchubs.com/blogs/ie-defender-...
IE Defender a rogue antispyware application that is starting to infect a lot of users. This particular infection is harder to remove. Also IE Defender installed in your Internet Explorer browser that hijacks searches you input into the Google and Yahoo search engines. When infected your Internet Explorer opens Google or Yahoo and make search request you will see a hijacked search result listing.

For remove IE Defender spyware, make follow the steps outlined in the topic linked below http://www.myantispyware.com/2007/11/10/...
This link details the solution that worked for me:

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?...

Link reads:

We've got infected by this IE Defender crap and I've read many Temporary Solutions or Total Removals, Just read here to see both solutions.

They are either listed as IR9V0_QCX.dll OR bDivX.dll

*Solution One

Go to Internet Explorer

Go to Manage Add Ons

Find bDivX.dll(In My Case IntelVideo - IR9V0_QCX.dll)

Disable It

OR (Still Solution One)

Go to Internet Explorer

Go to Internet Options %26gt;%26gt; Advance Tab

Reset Browser to disable ALL ADD-ONs

Solution Two

Find bDivX.dll(In my case IR9V0_QCX.dll) In the Windows 32 folder

Once found IR9V0_QCX.dll OR bDivX.dll %26gt;%26gt; Delete It

Now in Solution Two, the Spyware/Virus is now REMOVED and it did not damage anything BECAUSE the IE Defender Spyware is actually a Spyware Plug In for Internet Explorer

* = Only a Temporary Solution, will not TOTALLY remove the IE Defender Spyware from your computer

Hope this helps,

IE 7 Help.?

Anyone else notice that IE 7 takes forever to open? It sometimes takes a long time for pages to open as well. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Is there an update available to fix it?

IE 7 Help.?default browser

There is an update: it's called FireFox :) Seriously, IE7 is quite bloated, I don't know of any hotfixes. I would suggest removing any extraneous plugins and toolbars, such as the ubiquitous Google Toolbar. Also, try clearing your cache and settings its max size to around 100 - 200 MB.

After spending a lot of bucks getting the PC repaired I'm not willing to try to remove it right now.

How do I get rid of those miserable popups that are hitting me all the time?

I have my firewall on, also using AVG but can't get rid of bothersome stuff like Red Orbit.com and MSN and Messenger when my home page is Yahoo.

This is never happened before.I had more control with IE-6.

You're better off going with Firefox or Opera. Both have built-in popup blockers. Your firewall and AVG won't do anything to stop popups. However, if you really want IE, you can just get the Google Toolbar, which includes a popup blocker.

You've got malware or spyware. Get a copy of "Ad-Aware" and "Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy." Both are available free of charge; a Google search will give you download sites. Run both programs, as each spots things that the other doesn't. Download "AVG Antivirus," which also has a free edition. Run it. After all that, you more than likely will have fixed the problem.

Internet Explorer 7, whatever its vices or virtues, does not give you all these popups by itself.

Can't find Temp IE directory on XP with SP2?

For some unknown reason I can't find/access the temporary IE directory file on my XP system. The directory I am specifically looking for is located in C:/documents and settings/'username'/local settings/temp/temp IE. (The 'username' refers to the specific user that I want to see.) I have done this in the past and it worked but can't seem to find it now. I have turned on BOTH the SHOW HIDDEN FILES and SHOW SYSTEM HIDDEN FILES via Windows Explorer Tools menu folder options but still no luck. This particular directory contains many .tmp files that are created when you use IE. I like to clean it out as it gets very large over time.

Any help would be appreciated.

How come the dvd cover is shifted slightly to the right in IE?

IE issues with css?microsoft flight simulator

IE6 does not format CSS properly. To accomodate for IE6, use these tags in the head part of your document and change the CSS to make it work.

%26lt;!--[if IE 6]%26gt;

.insertCSStoFixHere {blah:true;}

%26lt;![endif]--%26gt;

This way, the browser reads these tags and if IE 6, it uses them instead of your normal CSS.

This hack works for all versions of IE, just change the version number to suit.

Why does ie close out of random?

I had the original IE, that every xp comes with first. and every time i hit "view profile" in myspace or went to a profile in myspace or anything of that sort, it would close without no "dont send" or "send error report" signal.

in firefox, it works great and doesn't exit.

So then I deleted Ad-Aware and got Spybot, and scanned it.

After all this, my ie will still close, without letting me know.

Any tips or anyone know how to fix this?

Why does ie close out of random?microsoft zune

It could be a variety of reasons such as incompatible Add-ons, incompatible toolbars, lack of system resources (RAM), malware, Java problems, etc. Hard to say without knowing the error details.

First run your resident security products such as antivirus and antispyware applications. If everything comes up clean, try uninstalling your toolbars such as Google or Yahoo through Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. If the issues continue, go to Tools, Manage Add-ons and disable each one by itself to see if one of them is the culprit. If you are still having troubles, update your Java by following these steps.

Assuming that you are in the Administrator account, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstall everything that says J2SE, Java and Java Runtime. Reboot (some computers require a reboot to complete the uninstall process). Then go to the site below and download the most recent version of Java.

Afterwards, in IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab and scroll down to the Java section and tickmark the "Use 1.6.2 (version changes with each update) for applet". Click Apply, Click OK and reboot (a reboot is required for some computers for the settings to stick).

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.js...

Finally if everything above has been ruled out, you probably have a system resources problem. You can see if your computer can handle more RAM by going to Crucial.com and running a scan.

http://www.crucial.com/index.asp

It's important to note that everything takes RAM. Not only security products (such as active anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall) eat up memory but your operating system, active browser windows, running applications (such as Word, Gaming, Messenger, Photoshop, etc) and malware

Why does ie close out of random?windows nt internet explorer

Firefox working OK? Not giving you problems? Well, stick with Firefox, i have and have never looked back. Deleted Internet Explorer even ( not explorer.exe, but iexplore.exe ) you can still just type a web address in MyComputer address bar if you want. Try Opera as well as a back up to FF, leave IE for the place it has earned, that is last. Netscape has been officially retired, bet ya IE is next to go to the browser graveyard.

IE 6 will not connect to the internet while alternative Firefox is?

Basically I keep getting the 'Page cannot be displayed' page in Internet Explorer 6, while my wireless connection is working fine resulting in that I can still connect in Mozilla Firefox. However programs such as Windows Live Messenger rely on IE to work for them to work, meaning my main trouble is that I cannot use WLM and that is why I need to fix this problem pretty quickly.

I am running XP Pro SP2 and have Comodo firewall, and a wireless connection.

Previous to writing this I have reverted from IE7 to IE6 to try and sort the problem and have changed some of settings like the LAN settings to what some websites/guides have mentioned. I have also allowed the two programs, IE and WLM, to work with my firewall, which I think I have done correctly.

If you are running Firefox try this, there is a new add-on out for Firefox that allows you to view pages that don't work in Firefox using internet explorers rendering engines (fancy word for the program that allows you to view the web pages). This add-on is called ie tab for Firefox, you can download it at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox... When you get to this page simply click add to Firefox and then follow the instructions in the on-screen installation box.

Yes. I had the same problem, it does not take too long to re-download them though, as and when they are needed. It's still only in beta testing, but I'm using firefox at the mo because I cant ask questions on IE7, it wont show the category's properly.
i had no such problem.

i don't know why
I had no such problem..wonder why? Anyways an alternative that you could use is the MSN toolbar. You can use that with your IE 6 and it supports tabbed browsing too!!!

As everyone else pointed out IT IS A BETA, so you could wait till the full release!
I did not have that problem although that may be because I have Macromedia Flash MX 2004 the paid for version.

IE won't connect?

My mother's pc is connecting to the internet, however IE won't load. The page comes up blank and just reads as "IE is connecting". It seems to freeze the pc and shut down is necessary. I cannot access any website from her pc, and even Norton's freezes when trying a Live Update. Any idea of what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Tell your Mom to switch to DSL for the price difference today its worth it. There must be a connection problem somewhere that is causing this problem. If your Mom is running Windows XP try a system restore and go back to a day the connection worked. If not try this go to control panel and then network connections and double click on the connection your Mom is using.Click on support and then click on repair see if that works.I'll list some links in source to help you troubleshoot the problem.

Sounds like it cant connect to the internet if it doesnt dispaly a webpage and also cant conenct to nortons live update.

Check you internet connections settings and leads.
Do you have Firewall SW active. You could try with this off and also see that failing applications have trusted access.

How do I get IE & to close down when I click the X button at top right.?

Our PC crashed last weekend. We had IE 7, Windows XP and we uploaded Norton Security 2008 - and boom - we lost almost everything. 24 hours later we found it all saved as a backup. (WHEW).

Now whenever I open IE7 browser, I cannot get the first window to close - it just goes to a blank page and literally freezes the computer.

All the tabs work fine and close fine, as do other pages if I open a second and third window. They all close properly.

I usually have to do a ctrl-alt-del to remove that first window, and then I get that damned blue and gray report - IE is not working - send to MS so they can help.

I always click dont send - I am not sending my personal details to MS.

How can I fix the IE browser.

And please dont tell me to use firefox or something else, I am well aware they are available, but right now IE is easier. Or at least it was.

Thanks

It's your ram that is corrupt.

It's a fairly cheap thing to replace.

The only fuss there is to select the right ram.

DDR, DDR2, DDR3, newer computers have DDR4

If it continues to crash, just hit "CTRL+ALT+DEL",

A task manager will appear. Go to "processes".

Find a process called "iexplore".

click on it, then select "end process".

It'll close down internet explorer

I'd say, go ahead and download firefox.

www.getfirefox.com

It's not easier.

It's just a learning curve.

To be honest, I'd remove Norton. It's hurts your system more than it repairs it.

Takes up too much system resources, takes up too much space and it's costs too much.

Free anti-virus are in most cases even better than lousy Norton!

reinstall (uninstall then install again)
I had this. I got it changing pages, or sometimes just opening IE. MS said it depended on the site. I had to format the hard drive and reload everything. I was told it's related to a problem with Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine. Something to do with losing their license. They originally said IE wouldn't work after December, but mine does now. Removing and reinstalling IE did me no good. I suspect the deal is the new versions of IE (both 6 and 7) have the Sun Microsystem Java, or something along those lines. It looks like MS has taken down their knowledge base documents. They were pretty good.Good Luck!

If i upgrade to ie 7 and dont like it can i go back to ie 6 easily?...see details?

First of all, this is my girlfriends computer and she's the type of person that absolutely hates change....with anything.I think its a disorder of some sort.Anyways,ie 6 is running like crap,it closes itself out all the time, hardly ever works right, gets tons of errors, its always getting a box that comes up and says "work offline" and/or "try again",etc....Needless to say,its a problem.I use firefox and opera, and dont have a problem, but theres those rare cases where you just cant get around using ie.She is not that tech savvy at all so,would she even notice if i updated it?Is there that much of a difference? Can i go back to ie 6 easily if its a problem for her?She wont let me upgrade it,but wont shut up and stop complaining about it at the same time...she thinks its something im doing that causes the problems...typical....Also,she flatly refuses to try opera or firefox, she wont even give it a chance, like i said, shes old school and hates change. Its a good thing anyways, there customized.

IE 7 is sort of like Firefox. There is not much difference. If you install IE 7.0, it is simple to uninstall, just go to Add\Remove programs and uninstall. It will bring the IE browser back to IE 6.

HTML Matching in Firefox & IE?

I'm currently working on the code for a website, and everything is wonderful in Firefox. However, when I view the page in blasted IE the div columns do not line up properly with the header.

I also have smaller div layers within the two main columns (navigation div, and news div) that serve as text place holders, just as a design preference, and they are also screwed up in IE, running over the main divs.

I know IE is a baby when it comes to HTML, and so unlike Firefox you have to make sure every little thing (such as px after a #, instead of just the #) must be added in order for IE to read it properly.

If there's anything of that nature that could make a quick fix for my problem, I'm much obliged. But no matter the problem, I still need a solution.

Thanks.

HTML Matching in Firefox %26amp; IE?ie tab internet explorer

Welcome to the wonderful world of web development. The problem you are experiencing is due to Microsoft's inability to conform to the standards put forth by the World Wide Web Consortium. After all they are better than us right? Somehow, other browsers manage to do this without a problem. I suggest developing the two side by side until you get a better handle on the differences in the way the two browsers work.

Can Netscape & IE co exist? I still have IE problems?

I cant change the homepage of IE it always go back to "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=... even if i changed it in the internet properties. Is it because netscape is using it? Should i delete Netscape? I already updated my IE but still not working. Please help!!!

Can Netscape %26amp; IE co exist? I still have IE problems?download windows media player

Netscape versions prior to version 8 did not share anything with Internet Explorer, except for one very odd case of a bookmark issue where Netscape 6 was reading Internet Explorer's bookmarks. I doubt Netscape 8 is causing your problem, and in fact can gaurentee you it is not.

My guess would be that the problem is caused by Microsoft antispyware, or another antispyware tool. The problem is called homepage locking. Some antispyware tools will try and change the homepage to prevent spyware infections. Microsoft's antispyware, called Windows Defender does this and changes it to a Microsoft homepage.

Are you sure you provided me with a correct URL?

If you don't have an antispyware tool, I recommend WebRoot. Webroot (for pay software) gives you control over what homepage your browser(s) use.

http://www.webroot.com

Barring that, there is a free piece of software called IE Restrictions which may help.

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ierestricti...

If you think that Internet Explorer is changing its own settings, try turning off any antispyware tools, and trying this:

8.In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey, if it exists:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Mi... Explorer\Control Panel

9.If the ResetWebSettings value or the HomePage value exists in this key, right-click the values, and then click Delete.

Note You may also want to verify any Web site information contained in the Default_Page_URL value and the Start Page value in the following registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\I... Explorer\Main

HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Interne... Explorer\Main

HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\... Explorer\Main

10.On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.

11.On the File menu or on the Registry menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

They can co-exist no problems... but if you think that has something to do w/ it then change ur netscape homepage too... also be sure your changing the page in right place on IE (tools-%26gt;options-%26gt;homepage)

This is also true when we downloaded the .mpg file onto his workstation, and tried to play it using Windows Media player; video plays but no video image. I know he also has some type of codec installed, but not sure what. Can any ones suggest a solution to this?

IE will not open when using YIM?

I had this problem with YIM 7 so I just upgraded to 8 to see if it would fix the problem. When I click on mail from the messenger window, it prompts me whther I want to be logged in automatically or not. I click yes, but IE (my default browser) does not open and I get no e-mail page. Also, when I click to play launchcast, I do not get any sound, or any errors. I've tried turning off my firewall with the same results. It is as if the appropriate registry values are not set for messenger to launch IE. Has anyone fixed this type of problem?

Uninstall Yahoo Instant Messenger, upgrade your browser to IE 7 (or better, Mozilla) and reinstall the latest version.

If that doesn't work, you may have to go to run--%26gt;msconfig to get to the registry to take a look. It's a messy thing though, you should back up the reg before working on it.

How do I check if internet explorer IE is open or not?

Hi everyone,

I have an advertising board at a remote location running a web page (in IE) that displays advertisements. I already have a way of checking to see if the web server is running or not on the remote machine. However, I would also like to remotely check to see if IE is running or not. Maybe some kind of javascript that checks the remote computer for a file when IE is open (and if IE is not open the file does not exist). And if the file exists, than that would mean the IE is open, and it would display something for me saying so. I ope that I have explained myself properly. Basically I want to be able to log into my administration web site and check to see if IE is open or not (on the remote computer) from anywhere in the world. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

You can set up logmein on your server and view its screen remotely to check this. I feel a disaster brewing, though. This means you are running the server in a public place? This is very dangerous.

IE issues: dotted lines not showing up properly?

I'm creating a site using Perl, Mason Site Builder. My layout has a lot of dotted lines. While the dotted lines work well and are seen perfectly in Firefox as they are, in IE they completely suck. In IE, the lines sometimes are blurry, invisible, and in some parts they stick together like lines. I've checked my codes. I've checked everything. Everything is perfect on my end, it must be a browser issue (damn billy gates!) Anyone can help me? PLEASE?

Hello, This is a bug in IE. One of the many irritating things about CSS support in Internet Explorer is that it incorrectly shows dashed borders instead of dotted borders.

IE7 Currently addresses this issue, but prior browsers, you would need to do some workaround.

Take a look at this link for details.

Type "Internet Explorer" into the search box on the start menu and then select the "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" option and see if this resolves the problem. If it does then a piece of software has been installed on your computer and is affecting the browser. If you have installed some new software recently trying removing it.

Alternatively try resetting Internet Explorers settings by following the guide on the link below:

IE formatting @yahoo.com is askew. Text is very large and overlapping. Cache was cleared to no avail

It is the entire yahoo.com website I have trouble with. IE displays the font large and overlapping. I don't have a mouse with a roller, I've cleared cache, and I've adjusted my screen resolution. Most other websites are fine, except AOL IM. My IM window also has similar formatting issues. In IE I changed my font size from medium to smaller, but it did not change the size of the yahoo.com pages.

I agree, get thyself to an antivirus and antispyware scan and check your computer. If the first scan doesn't show anything, make absolutley sure by doing a 2nd and even a 3rd scan. No anti-whatever is 100% effective 100% of the time.

If you're using Windows then you're using Internet Explorer whether you realize it or not. IE is an integral part of Windows and some features just won't work without it. You may not be using IE as a browser, but believe me, it's working in the background.

Not going to happen with activex controls anymore.

Look at what happens when you go to windows update... you have to accept Microsoft's activex controls also.

If you're developing for the web I'd avoid using activex altogether. Its a old tech that has long since had its day in the sun.

Web design? IE 5 vs IE 7?

IE 5 doesn't display all things the same way as 7, from my understanding.

Also you can't seem to have IE 5 and 7 installed on the same computer?

So what do you do?

Web design? IE 5 vs IE 7?windows installer

There's a piece of software out there, "multiple IEs" I think its called, that'll let you run multiple releases of Internet Explorer on the same computer... It had versions all the way back to release 3! I had it for awhile, until I found I wasn't using it very often and it was just, "gathering dust."

Web design? IE 5 vs IE 7?microsoft vista internet explorer

i use IE 7 insted of IE 5
Use IE6, since that's what most people have.
True, yet neither version displays things the way it's supposed to.

Try this: http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE
First of all, the installed base of IE 5 is so small that it's generally not worth worrying about. There is, however, a significant number of users using IE 6. As you said, the way the different versions of Internet Explorer display the same pages can vary.

The solution for having multiple versions is to upgrade to IE 7 and install standalone copies of the previous versions of the browser. You can find more information here:

http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE

There's also a way to install IE 7 standalone:

http://tredosoft.com/IE7_standalone
You design for the current browsers (don't forget Firefox) and the current resolution, and you don't worry about people who haven't updated their computers in 10 years. (You can't design a web page that displays correctly at every resolution in every browser.)
Use firefox. That's what! :D
no Ie4 is better than Eye 7
Neither!

IE screwed up?

Hi, I closed my laptop, and re-opened it. This time when I opened it, ever key I typed in had a hotkey affect - it wouldn't allow me to type anything in. If I pressed a key on a field in IE, a windows would pop up asking me to do something as if that key were a hotkey - and they weren't, so I couldn't type anything in, anywhere. Also, now when I start IE, I can't see the "start" bar at the bottom, and the "_", Maximize, and "X" icons are smaller. It's pissing me off. I have Windows Vista.

Reboot. Rebooting solves all non-serious problems, and quite a few serious ones.
My advice is:

Use FireFox it is much safer and has plenty of other things to make Web browsing more enjoyable.

Besides, it's open source, it's free and it is not Micro$oft!

Seriously, I love it and use it without problems...

I recall having a similar problem with IE7 some weeks ago...

every time I typed an "e" it opened "Exel" really weird!!!

Hope this helps.
seems like the hotkey console has got locked out on your laptop. What i would suggest you do is that try uninstalling the IE application, then power down your laptop and hit the reset pin located under your laptop. That would give your laptop a hard reset to get everyting back to normal..
